Obwohl es sich um eine eingeschleppte Art handelt, gelten Gr\u00fcndlinge als gutartig, da sie keine signifikanten Auswirkungen auf einheimische Arten oder \u00d6kosysteme haben. Es wird angenommen, dass sie als lebende K\u00f6der eingef\u00fchrt wurden und in Irland nur l\u00fcckenhaft verbreitet sind, vor allem in Fl\u00fcssen und Kan\u00e4len rund um die Midlands und die Grenzbezirke. Gr\u00fcndlinge sind kleine, ziemlich h\u00fcbsche Fische mit silbrig schillernden violetten Schuppen und dunklen Streifen auf R\u00fccken und Schwanz. Sie bilden oft Schw\u00e4rme und k\u00f6nnen sich miteinander verst\u00e4ndigen, indem sie ein quietschendes Ger\u00e4usch von sich geben. Gr\u00fcndlinge haben nach unten gerichtete M\u00fcnder mit einem Paar schnurrhaarartiger Barteln, mit denen sie am Boden nach Insektenlarven, Krebstieren und Weichtieren suchen, insbesondere in flachem Wasser. Gr\u00fcndlinge laichen nachts im Fr\u00fchsommer, und ihre Eier kleben an Steinen und Pflanzen, bis sie schl\u00fcpfen.
