bream fishing in leitrim roscommon sligo

After a long few months of very wet weather, I finally got a dry spell to fish a spot I love. It can only be fished after a dry spell as it floods 100 yards from the bank after even 1-2 days of rain let alone all 3 months solid :) Anyways I set out with a plan to

  • Pre-bait and clear my swim

  • Catch some wild Irish Bream

  • Get some photos and release them

After prebaiting for 3 nights I decided to give it a go on the 4 eve to fish. I had a good bag of roach and Rudd average around the 3/4lb mark and a few around 1.5lb for the last 2 hrs of light did not get a bite and was starting to pack up when I saw a decent bream roll out in my swim. So with a change of plan, I called herself to see what was the option for a takeaway dinner as I was staying for the night.

I hid my gear in the rushes and rushed to the van to drive home the drive is around 20 minutes so the full return took me around 90 minutes. Once back in the swim, I added some more ground bait and pellets from JustBait.ie and it wasn’t long until I got the first bite. The bream fed throughout the night and stopped about 30 mins after sunrise it was a warmer September morning than most of the summer mornings we had just had.

I took the fish out for the next for a quick photo and all released back for another day. After packing up and arriving back in the van covered in slime I had a sense of accomplishment of achieving what I had set out to do.
